Summer is fast approaching, and for us the first sign is always that our hills are no longer green and are now golden, which will last until the next rainy season in autumn. But the weather was pleasant to ride, not too hot until the afternoon when I finished. I have to be a little careful about the length of the ride because some pollen is in the air which gives me allergic headaches. Not too bad if I ride for less than 3 hours.
Last Tuesday my group did their “Taco Tuesday” trip for the 1st Tuesday of the month. We head south to San Martin, then turn east, then turn north back on the east side of the valley and up the Coyote Creek trail to Metcalf Park, turn back on Malech Road and head back to town for lunch.

On Saturday I went out and wanted to ride off-road.

Yesterday was a hard day, a fast 2 hour 50 minute ride with bike strength training and intervals. Then I did upper body strength training in the garage.

On the other side is the beginning of the neighborhood of South San Jose.The neighborhood on the West side backs up to the Santa Teresa Mountains. You can ride here for about 16 miles (16 km) to the north, with great views of the open area and Santa Teresa Park along the way.I rode up the steep hill on Bernal Rd that goes up to both the gates of the IBM research center and Santa Teresa park. I worked in research here from 1984-1987. I heard now that it’s closed so I thought I’d go see the situation. But the gates are still closed. IBM probably keeps people out until they sell the property.
