WWE’s The Miz Reveals His Workout, Recovery, and Secrets to Longevity at 45

It’s hard to believe that it’s been five years since M&F sat down with Mike “The Miz” Mizanin before the release of his song. WWE 24 documentary back in 2025. But time flies when you’re busy balancing a Hall of Fame-worthy wrestling career with a growing television presence. Fortunately, M&F was able to bring The Miz down long enough for him to experience a fight the size of a 45-year-old, and we soon found out how he relies on longevity, and how he manages to stay in great shape while throwing WWE and American Gladiators.
Although The Miz currently has his hands full with Danhausen in WWE, there is an honor that cannot be taken away from his in-ring career. The Miz is the only wrestler to ever defend a world title against John Cena at WrestleMania, and with “Can’t You See Me Star” now gone, that won’t be repeated. As for hanging up his boots, however, Miz has a lot of growing up to do.
“When I came up, I learned from the best,” he told M&F. “The best of the best; the John Cenas, the Randy Ortons. I was taught by Triple H and Shawn Michaels. Now, Cena’s retired, Shawn Michaels is retired, Triple H’s out, so I want to show the new guys what I learned from them.”
How The Miz Stays In Shape At 45 While Wrestling Full Time
“I don’t like working out,” Miz admitted. “A lot of people say they’re always in the gym, but I’ve got better things on my mind to do. So, I’m always big on finding tools that you can use, that will allow you to be the best version of you.” Take this interview for example, The Miz went on a Zoom call moments after entering the hotel, and when we’re done, he’ll go straight to his next commitment, shooting the American Gladiators. For busy people, the efficiency of measuring calories in versus calories out becomes a priority, rather than spending hours next to a barbell.
When he is locked up, Miz explains that his diet contains about 2,600 calories. Since he weighs 221 pounds, he chooses one gram of protein per pound of body weight. And, for cardio, a gifted grappler likes to hit the incline treadmill for 30 to 40 minutes. That’s a smart move, since most hotel gyms have one.
Why Miz Uses Floss Bands Before Leg Work
“It’s basically a rubber band, and you wrap it around your leg and it’s really tight, and then you stretch it,” explained the former WWE Champion. For the uninitiated, Floss Bands compress muscles and joints and are believed to increase the body’s range of motion while improving performance.
“I work out in them,” Miz says, “And that gets my legs ready to go.”
The Return Cycle to Keep Miz Healthy in WWE
The Miz is still known as one of the most consistent performers in WWE because he rarely misses time due to injury. “I always recommend that you jump in the cold water, you’re going to need it, and maybe go into the sauna right after,” he advises aspiring athletes like him. Miz narrates M&F that you like to go back and forth between the cold plunge and the sauna because each has its benefits.
When you submerge in cold water, the heart pumps blood more efficiently to maintain body temperature while releasing endorphins, which act as natural pain relievers. Jumping in the sauna opens up the blood vessels, which increases the flow to the damaged areas. In addition, as you sweat, toxins are removed from the body and muscles are more relaxed. “This is the biggest recovery tool I’ve ever used, as a WWE professional,” shared the amazing talent.
The Miz Wants to Guide the Next Generation of WWE
Away from the ring, The Miz has two children with the beautiful Maryse, and being on the road all these years has taught him a lot about valuing those personal relationships. “Put the phone down,” advised the spotted husband. He explains: “Talk to your wife, when she talks, you have to listen.”
Still, The Miz has unfinished business in the wrestling ring, and he means it by showing younger wrestlers the ropes. “So that they can go up and pass it,” he explained. “That, one thing in WWE we have to do regularly, as Superstars … Pass it on to the next generation.”
The Miz can be seen on WWE SmackDown on the USA Network in the US, and on Netflix internationally, while American Gladiators can be streamed on Prime Video.
