Ryan Rozicki Reveals His Knockout Strategy Ahead of Chris Billam-Smith Clash at Zuffa Boxing 7

Ryan “The Bruiser” Rozicki will fight for the first time outside of Canada when he faces former WBO Cruiserweight champion, Chris Billam-Smith in the main event of Zuffa Boxing 07 in Bournemouth, England. But despite The Bruiser’s reputation as an old-school scrapper, he combines intense workouts with a boxing strategy designed to end things early, he says. M&F.
Who is Ryan ‘The Bruiser’ Rozicki?
Rozicki’s origin story is as cinematic as they come. He got his first taste of old-school exercise on Cape Breton Island, off the coast of Nova Scotia, where his Grandad was chopping wood after the school bell rang. “My grandfather always said my drilling ability was because of all the wood he used to throw on trailers,” he explained. “Some days it was really hard, I’m not going to lie. But I’m glad he helped me.”
Although the manual labor was tiring, it was also a welcome distraction from a life that was increasingly headed in the wrong direction. Rozicki has been fighting since the age of seven, and as he got older, so did the age gap between him and his opponents. Of course, the Bruiser can only joke that such conflicts were not his fault. “It was always like that, all the time,” he says M&F he smiled mischievously. “There are strong people where I come from, I met a few of them. I didn’t win them all, but yes, I knew I had the power to take out since I was twelve years old. I think (that) was the first time I took out someone, who was an old man, in his 20s.”
Ryan Rozicki’s Journey from Schoolyard Fighter to Boxing Contender
Fortunately, Rozicki took his raw power to the boxing gym, but learning the technique was a wake-up call. “The coach at the gym calmed me down immediately,” he recalled. “The freshmen humbled me quickly, and I learned quickly that tough guys get hurt.
Through boxing, Rozicki was able to channel his energy into something positive, becoming a student of history who looks to Jack Dempsey as his favorite boxer of all time. The Bruiser is still working on grueling training methods, as shown in March, when he tried to replicate George Foreman’s old moves; pulling the truck with just his body. However, this trip ended badly when the truck left the road and hit a ditch. “I might actually sell this truck next week,” he told his Instagram followers after the incident. “If anyone wants to send me a msg. It’s located in Cape Breton, it will have to be towed a lot but it should be a solid truck with a story.”
Ryan Rozicki’s Strategy to Beat Chris Billam-Smith in Zuffa 7
Although Rozicki is famous for his old-school training, he doesn’t lift weights in the gym in preparation for a fight. “We run, we run, we box again,” explained the boxer about the camp that brought him to this next big boxing match. But while their records may be similar, The Bruiser (21-1-1) will be tasked with opposing Chris Billam-Smith (21-2-0). This is because the man they call “The Gentleman” is a decorated boxer, the very type of fighter who humbled him in those early years of training. Rozicki feels that the longer the fight goes on, the more favorable it is for the local hero, so he doesn’t want to leave the outcome in the hands of the judges. “My goal here is to do everything, and that’s impossible,” he concluded.
